Bitcoin vs Altcoins: Understanding the Difference

Bitcoin is the first widely adopted decentralized cryptocurrency. The term “altcoin” is commonly used for crypto assets other than Bitcoin, although the category includes projects with very different technologies and purposes.
Different purposes
Some digital assets focus on payments, some on smart-contract networks, and others on specialized applications. A project’s name alone does not establish its usefulness or value.
Do your research
Before using a digital asset, review its technology, documentation, network activity, security history and applicable legal requirements. Crypto prices can be highly volatile.
